Lucasfilm and Disney will finally produce a movie about the 'Rogue Squadron' from the Star Wars universe. Previously, the project was put on hold amid the universe's restructuring, but now, director Patty Jenkins is back working on the story of the brave rebel squadron from the new generation of the Resistance. However, the release date of the film is still uncertain due to all the delays.
The encouraging news for Star Wars fans was shared by Jenkins in an interview with Collider journalists. The director mentioned that she has already signed a contract with Lucasfilm and Disney. Jenkins highlighted that this project is personally significant to her - the screenwriter's father was a pilot in the US Air Force, making it very emotional for her to make a film about pilots.
It is worth noting that personal reasons in 2021 did not prevent Jenkins from leaving the project due to disagreements with the studio. Subsequently, rumors even surfaced that Disney had decided to abandon plans to make a film about another branch of the main storyline of Star Wars. In the spring of 2023, Jenkins held discussions with Lucasfilm and Disney about returning to the 'Rogue Squadron' project. However, at that time, there was a writers' strike in full swing in the US, so the parties did not announce the project then.
