Mercedes-Benz has announced a significant update for its iconic G-Class SUV. Since its first release in 1979, this model has only undergone one major update in 2018. Now, the German automaker is preparing to launch the Mercedes-Benz EQG - the first electric version of the 'G-Wagen'.
The new model will be an important step in the development of the lineup, showcasing the transition to eco-friendly technologies. As part of the preparation for the premiere, the company has launched a series of teasers to generate interest in the upcoming event. However, alongside the announcement of the electric model, Mercedes-Benz unexpectedly unveiled an updated version of the traditional G-Class with an internal combustion engine.
'The wait is almost over. Get ready to meet one of the new members of the G-Class family: the all-new G 500,' the manufacturer's message in social media reads. The teaser of the new model hides much, but it is already visible that the main visual changes will affect the bumpers, lighting, and the radiator grille, which now features four solid slats instead of three.
Detailed information on the characteristics of the model is not yet disclosed. It is known that the current version of the G-Class in the G 500 configuration is equipped with a 421-horsepower V8 gasoline engine with a volume of 4.0 liters, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive system. The premiere of the updated G-Class, as well as its electric version EQG, is scheduled for March 26. This event will be an important milestone for Mercedes-Benz, emphasizing the brand's commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
